Junior Leadership Hudson is a program created by the Leadership Hudson class of 2008. Its goal is to educate high school students about leadership styles and career opportunities. The group is composed of sixteen students, eight from Hudson High School and eight from Western Reserve Academy. These students are selected through a competitive application process in the fall. Junior Leadership Hudson, commonly called JLH, meets once a month to explore businesses and other organizations in the state of Ohio. The group focuses on discovering how executives use leadership skills in their career. Students are exposed to a diverse variety of occupations and fields, spending time with local leaders, company directors, and engaging researchers. Several highlights of JLH include a conference with Sherwin-Williams executives, meeting with state senators and representatives, attending a session of the Ohio Supreme Court, meeting with a world-renowned cancer researcher at the Cleveland Clinic, visiting the Akron Business Accelerator, and touring the Austen Bio-Innovation Institute in Akron.
Perhaps one of the finest aspects of Junior Leadership Hudson is its ability to teach students about careers and jobs. The majority of high school students only understand a few careers; JLH opens the door to many job paths. A student may have never considered finance until he visited Key Bank, another may have never considered politics before she visited the state capitol. JLH does an outstanding job educating its members through its seven different sessions each year.
If you are a student looking to expand your leadership horizon, a parent of a child with leadership potential, or a community member looking to become involved, please explore this website for further information on our specific sessions, the members of JLH, or how to contact us.
